Management
Every organization has a tendency to become chaotic in ways that threaten its survival. I try to bring order by repeatedly and unendingly:
- Communicating intent
- Setting clear expectations and tough goals
- Establishing a process to reach them
- Executing the process
- Learning from the results
Analysis Hints
- The purpose of analysis is insight
- An insight is a shift in orientation that helps you see reality more clearly and act in time
- The best analysis is the simplest analysis which gives the needed insight
- Most mistakes in analysis come from reacting to noise or ignoring signal
- If a graph is worth 1,000 words, then an annotated graph is worth 10,000
- Always present data in context; use graphs not point comparisons
